 | Over 200 years ago, in 1808, Mr Boyd started a legal practice in Edinburgh focused on maritime law which thrived in a growing market of the day. A hundred years later Mr Henderson and Mr Jackson created a new legal firm that specialised in acting for landowners. These historic firms came together with a number of smaller law firms to create a Top 10 Scottish law firm by the early 1990s, Henderson Boyd Jackson. Recognising the significant goodwill attached to the HBJ brand, the firm continues to trade as HBJ Gateley in Scotland.
Henderson Boyd Jackson and Gateley Wareing came together in 2006 to create the UK’s first legal firm with significant client bases in both Scotland and England. By opening in Manchester in 2010 we have now brought our brand of down to earth, commercial legal advice to the north-west.
Mergers with specialist shipping and transport solicitors Shaw & Croft and Holmes Hardingham in 2007 and 2008 allowed the firm to create a single specialised London office located close to Holborn Viaduct. That office continues to grow and offer our full range of legal expertise from the capital while in Scotland we recently merged with specialist firm Olivers to further improve our offering to individuals. Coupled with a move to brand new office accomodation in Glasgow and the new Manchester office, we continue to invest in our people and our business.
