 | When Louis Godlove founded his firm in 1919 you didn’t need a computer to count the number of solicitors working in Leeds. When he died more than fifty years later there were still scarcely three hundred, and many of them were still operating in the traditional way. Some practised in small partnerships of two or three, many were still working on their own, perhaps with just a clerk and a typist to help them. And they were “jacks-of-all-trades”, turning their hands to any legal job which came their way.
In his day Louis was the leading criminal lawyer in Leeds, but that didn’t stop him from dealing with residential and commercial property transactions, wills and trusts, business acquisitions, divorces and debt-collecting.
The firm still deals with the same kinds of work he did (except the crime!), and they still pride their selves in their determination to provide their services to private individuals and business clients alike.
