 | Hansells can trace its history back more than 175 years - but in more recent times the firm has expanded considerably in size.
The firm was founded in The Close, in Norwich, by Henry Hansell and Gardiner Chapman in 1827.
Their partnership gave the firm its first title, but a series of amalgamations has led to several name changes of the years.
In 1971 the firm merged with the Norwich-based practice of Stevenson & Co - which was founded towards the end of the 19th Century - to create Hansell Stevenson.
Since then the firm has grown enormously in both city and county. The partners of Blyth & Robinson, a well respected and long established Norwich firm, joined Hansell Stevenson in 1987.
Further mergers took place throughout the 1990s, when firms such as Ian Forman & Co, Purdy & Co, J A Rosser & Co, and Edward Bell & Co all became part of the firm.
In 2001 the Norwich firm of Emmett and Tacon also joined Hansell Stevenson, and in 2002 five partners and their support teams arrived from the local office of national law firm Eversheds.
At this stage the firm changed its name to the modern-day Hansells - its seventh different name!
Throughout its history Hansells has had its head office in The Close - the grounds of Norwich Catherderal - albeit in a number of different buildings. In addition to its two Norwich offices the firm also has offices in Aylsham, Sheringham, Cromer and North Walsham. |
