IP Law360, May 29, 2009 ─ Silicon Valley managing partner Bill Abrams, co-chair of the firm’s intellectual property practice, recently participated in a Q&A with IP Law360. Asked where he sees the next wave of IP cases coming from, he said, “As the frontiers of new media, commerce and journalism expand through the Internet, we face new questions both within the United States and worldwide that require new thinking in areas of copyright, trademarks, unfair competition and trade secret law.” Abrams’ advice to young lawyers interested in getting into IP law is, “Do it. IP is the cutting edge of the law and provides you with the opportunity to work with incredibly smart and creative people and consider issues that are often new and unexplored.” In 2009, Abrams was selected as a leading intellectual property litigator by the Daily Journal, and Chambers USA has named him as a leading lawyer in intellectual property patent law (California) for three consecutive years — 2006 to 2009. Abrams is also a consulting professor at Stanford University and a graduate of Stanford and Santa Clara University School of Law. He is also heavily involved in pro bono work, which he commented on for the article. “I have several death penalty cases that are especially challenging,” said Abrams. “The stakes are very high and we are fighting to protect our clients from wrongful convictions and execution.”
