With the appointment of Richard Westmoreland, HWL Ebsworth continues to cement its
growth in size and expertise by appointing a partner specialising purely in competition and
trade practices law.
Richard has joined the firm as Partner to head up the Trade Practices Group. His years of
experience as a competition law specialist advising some of Australia’s largest companies,
enables him to provide strategic advice and guidance to clients across a range of sectors.
Managing Partner, Juan Martinez, said ”HWL Ebsworth already had an impressive depth of
trade practices experience. Richard’s appointment takes this to a new level. Richard brings
with him a wealth of experience of complex and challenging trade practice issues, from
complex merger clearances, to compliance program design and implementation, to
representation of clients before the ACCC.
"Richards’s appointment will enable our clients access to genuine expertise in this critical area
of law at competitive national rates."
As Richard said, “No company can ignore the ACCC or the Trade Practices Act. Good advice
can make the difference between safely achieving your commercial goals and objectives
versus falling foul of the ACCC or leaving yourself open to challenge by competitors.”
The Trade Practices Group is experienced across a range of industries, including automotive,
manufacturing, consumer electronics, pharmaceuticals, franchising, aviation and shipping.
HWL Ebsworth evolved in May 2008 from the merger of two like-minded and highly respected
law firms: Home Wilkinson Lowry and Ebsworth & Ebsworth. The combined practice
represents a solid partnering of strengths and experience, built on a philosophy of open
communication and ongoing improvement. More than 500 people, in excess of 100 partners,
working from our Melbourne, Sydney, Norwest Business Park and Brisbane offices, make us
a pre-eminent, mid-tier national practice
