The family of Roy Ford have been seeking answers as to how the 55 year old, from Middleton, died after an accident at work left him with a severe leg fracture which led to a Deep Vein Thrombosis causing his death.
The inquest in to his death at Oldham Magistrates Court recorded a narrative verdict.
Mr Ford had broken his leg after an accident at work, when he fell from around 5 feet after trying to pull boxes from a pallet. He was working for Express Gifts in Chadderton, when the accident happened on the 8th October 2009. He died just four weeks later on the 3rd November. He had previously raised concerns about unsafe working practices at Express Gifts.
Commenting for the family, their Solicitor, Daniel Radiven, from Manchester law firm Pannone said, “Roy Ford had voiced concerns to his supervisor at work regarding the system in place for removing boxes from pallets, but it appears those concerns were not acted upon. The result was a tragic accident which ultimately led to Mr Ford’s death due to him developing a fatal Deep Vein Thrombosis. Mr Ford’s family quite understandably want to know the exact circumstances of the accident at work and want to ensure steps are put in place to make certain it doesn’t happen to anyone else in the future. Roy himself expressed concern that a similar incident could also happen to a colleague."
Mr Radiven confirmed that the family will be pursuing a civil action against Express Gifts.
