Charles Russell acted for Austen Ivereigh, the former spokesperson for the Archbishop of Westminster in a libel claim against Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Daily Mail.
The case, one of the few libel cases to reach court which began in 2006, initially resulted in a hung jury after a two week trial in February 2008. A unanimous jury found in favour of Austen Ivereigh at the retrial in January 2009, awarding him £30,000 damages along with a costs order being made by Mr Justice Eady in his favour (including the costs of both trials). An interim payment on account of costs has already been made by the defendant.

The team comprised Duncan Lamont, Monica Bhogal, James Quartermaine, Amy Radnor , Christopher Evans, Ronald Thwaites QC and Joanne Black of counsel. Duncan commented: "Our client Austen had to fight long and hard for his vindication but when it came it was complete and we are delighted to have succeeded in achieving such a great win for him."
